The YOSO Story

In 2013, 10 professionals in the Ontario knitting community thought a retreat would be fun. We selected Fern Resort, well known by some of our members as a great location because it offered terrific food, comfortable rooms, a variety of class teaching spaces, and a beautiful location on the shores of Lake Couchiching, not a long drive from Toronto.

That first retreat, Spring 2013, was a bit of a challenge. There was an ice storm. No matter. We all had a great time, made friends and learned a lot. Since then, we worry about ice storms every year but most weekends have been just lovely.

Each one of the YOSO team members teaches and we have been delighted to offer many different hand knitting, machine knitting, yarn dyeing, crochet, Tunisian crochet, and needle felting classes for all levels of experience, as well as classes about garment fit, demystifying fibre, stash management, knitting tips and tricks, understanding colour, finishing, Ravelry, and more. We change our classes ever year in response to our attendees wishes, trends in the fibre world, and our own new skills.

Each year we ask our attendees to evaluate the retreat and the classes they attend. The evaluation results help us to achieve our goal of doing better every year.

From the beginning, we offered an all-inclusive experience – rooms, 3 meals daily ordered from the comprehensive menu, snacks, door prizes, goodie bags, a fashion show, and lots of fun and learning for everyone.

There’s a marketplace, too, one that’s grown in size each year.

We’re delighted to welcome both returning and new attendees. Keep in touch with us:

On Ravelry where you can see some of the faces and projects from earlier years.

On Facebook where we post ideas and so can you.

On Twitter and on Instagram where we post a stitch or two, as well!

We’d love you to join us!
